EMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE

The Employment Committee is comprised of volunteers from DAV Chapters across Virginia who are appointed by the Department Commander for a one-year term. The committee is dedicated to helping disabled veterans and their families overcome barriers to meaningful employment and build more secure, productive futures.

  • Manage the Virginia Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Employment Program by assisting disabled veterans seeking suitable employment, including providing information on job search tools and tips, employment opportunities, career assessments, education and training, résumé preparation, interview attire, interview skills, and other available support services.

  • Coordinate with the DAV National Employment Program to assist disabled veterans and their spouses with entering or reentering the job market and improving their quality of life.

  • Work closely with the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC), including Local Veterans Employment Representatives (LVERs) and Disabled Veterans Outreach Program (DVOP) Specialists, to help ensure disabled veterans receive preference and support in obtaining employment.

  • Periodically conduct and assist with job fairs and hiring events at various locations throughout Virginia to connect veterans with employers and resources.

Department By-Laws Article 4, Section 4-4, Para. 5: Employment Committee

Para 5: EMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE

 

Para 5.1: Shall be responsible for promoting an effective employment program on behalf of unemployed and underemployed disabled veterans in the Commonwealth of Virginia through existing sources, i.e., Virginia Employment Commission, Job Training Partnership Act, and other Federally funded veterans' programs.

 

Para 5.2: Shall review and coordinate or prepare employment related legislative proposals and resolutions prior to submission to the Legislative Committee.

 

Para 5.3: Shall coordinate with the Awards Committee and be the focal point for DAV National and Department employment related awards.
