Medical Resources


My Health E Vet
My HealtheVet is a web-based product that gives veterans information and tools to improve their health. At the moment, users can access more than 18 million pages of health information from the site’s Health Education Library. In the future, users will be able to add personal health information, refill prescriptions, view appointments and copay balances, and get copies of portions of their personal health records online.

InteliHealth
Medical site of John Hopkins University of Medicine. Maintains a 2 million page health library online, easily accessed by keyword search. Also has links to Medline and MDX Journal, and USP pharmaceutical database. The medical school health newsletter is available in email format upon request.

Center for Disease Control
The Center for Disease Control site, with many links to other medical sites. Large database of information on diseases, injuries, and disabilities.

National Library of Medicine
The National Library of Medicine, maintained in cooperation with the National Institute of Health. Many health-related links and retrievable documents.

The Merck Manual
Online version of The Merck Manual, complete with extensive tables. A definitive source of information about illness and diseases.

Health Touch
Information about diseases, health, wellness and illness, including a resource guide to organizations and government agencies. The site includes an online drug search program for prescription and OTC drugs.

Virginia Assembly
Official site of the Virginia Assembly. Includes bill trackers and other features to monitor activities in the state legislature.

Web-Automated Reference Materials System (WARMS)
WARMS provides internet access to Veterans Benefits Administration manuals, directives, circulars, letters, Title 38 Code of Federal Regulations and other reference materials.

FedWorld
Fedworld contains links to every federal government web site.

Policy.com
Dedicated to using online communications to enhance civic participation in public policy, this site showcases leading research, opinions and events shaping public policy on issues of education, technology and healthcare.

Department of Veterans Affairs
Current VA news releases and searchable database of regulations and directives.

U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans' Claims
The appellate court that reviews Board of Veterans Appeals decisions.

U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit
The appellate court that reviews decisions made by the Court of Appeals for Veterans' Claims.

This is the definitive site for legislative matters. Provides the status of all bills pending in congress, committee reports, text of the congressional record, hearing transcripts, congressional schedules, and much more.

Library of Congress
Library of Congress home page, with links to other congressional sites. Contains the National Digital Library, library reading rooms, and other library services.

National Personnel Records Center
Site of the official repository of military personnel records. Contains links to many sites of value in researching military personnel and unit records.

Social Security Administration
Useful for gaining access to information about Social Security benefits.

Department of Labor
Information about labor law, employment, trends, veterans preference, etc.

Miscellaneous Useful Sites

The sites listed here were chosen primarily because of their usefulness for travel or relocation. Military folks relocate a lot, and active members of veterans groups travel to numerous events, meetings and conventions. These sites will be of great assistance to fellow "road warriors!" Most cities have web sites now, so entering the city name as a keyword search in your browser will usually find the official site of the municipality in question. This can be a useful way to "visit" the city in advance and obtain information.

My Virtual Reference Desk
Winner of numerous awards, this site offers links to a treasure trove of net resources and helps bring order to the chaos of the Internet.

Intellicast Weather
A superb weather site with clickable maps to get specific radar and satellite information. An excellent resource for determining travel forecasts.

Big Book Business Phone Book
Comprehensive collection of information about 11 million U.S. businesses. Lets you find specific services anywere in the country, with nationwide street maps, third-party reviews, and customer ratings.

Map Quest
Online mapping and routing, directions, and yellow page listings. Provides detailed point-to-point driving directions.

Switchboard
Similar to Big Book, but focusing on phone information, with 106 million residential and 11 million business listings.

Defense Link
The Department of Defense main link to all branches of the military services, the office of the Defense Secretary, the Joint Chiefs, the Reserves, and defense theatres of command.

American War Library
America's largest military/veteran registry and locator database, with thousands of pages of data, statistics, documentation and files on all of America's military missions.

W3 Consortium
The World Wide Web Consortium, the organization that tests and establishes the standards and specifications for HTML and the World Wide Web.

HTML Goodies
A great site for the novice web author, complete with online lessons and examples. The site author is Joe Burns, a university professor who teaches courses about the internet and web site design.

Java Goodies
Another site by Joe Burns, focusing on use of Javascript in web page design, with lots of examples that can be pasted into your page.

Web Design Group
A site maintained by the Web Design Group to provide web authoring reference material, tips, and to answer frequently asked questions.
