How to Join the DAV Auxiliary

Who is Eligible to Join the DAV Auxiliary?

 

At the 2004 DAVA National Convention, the delegates adopted a change to the constitution that would allow for males to join the auxiliary. A ballot was sent out to all units by National Auxiliary Headquarters asking the unit to vote on the change. A ratification of three-fourths of the units chartered was needed in order to put this change into effect. On February 15, 2005, the votes were counted and it was confirmed that the required percentage of units had voted to allow men to join the Auxiliary, if eligible. This change immediately became effective on the date of ratification.

 

The spouse, surviving spouse, parents, siblings, children, grandparents, grandchildren and great grandchildren of any person eligible (or any deceased person who was eligible) for Disabled American Veterans membership are eligible for membership in the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
Children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of members of the Auxiliary who are not otherwise eligible for membership are eligible for membership in the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
Any person who is eligible for membership in the Disabled American Veterans is also eligible for membership in the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
A member eligible for membership in both the parent organization and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary shall not be eligible to vote nor hold any office (elective or appointive) and/or chairmanship in the Auxiliary while holding any office (elective or appointive) and/or chairmanship in the Disabled American Veterans.
The spouse, surviving spouse, parents, siblings, children, grandparents, grandchildren and great grandchildren of any person who was injured or disabled while serving with any of the armed forces of the nations associated with the United States of America and therefore eligible for membership in the Disabled American Veterans and who was honorably discharged and who became an American citizen, are also eligible.
The surviving spouse, parents, siblings, children, grandparents, grandchildren, and great grandchildren of any person who has since died of injury, wounds, or disability received in eligible service as in Section 1 above are eligible for membership in the Auxiliary.
The Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary shall not have honorary members.

The Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary (DAVA) was founded in 1922 by women who saw a need for assistance to the families, widows and orphans of disabled veterans, as well as the disabled veterans themselves. Today, in more than 2,000 Units nationwide, the DAV Auxiliary continues, more dedicated than ever before, to serve disabled veterans, with particular emphasis on the families of those veterans.

There are lots of reasons to join the DAV Auxiliary: terrific volunteer programs, an opportunity to serve disabled veterans and their families directly, a chance to help others in your community, and much, much more. But the most important reason for joining the DAV Auxiliary is quite simple. There’s a pressing need to protect the benefits the disabled veteran in your life has earned for the people you care most about - your family.

Your membership strengthens the DAV Auxiliary in its battle to defend your family from the deterioration of the benefits which help buy the groceries and pay the rent or mortgage. Just belonging to the Auxiliary accomplishes so much - long before you attend your first meeting. It also helps protect families of other disabled veterans, many of whom are less fortunate than yours.
